January 2nd     Don Dray  -  The Roaring Twenties"

A look at this exciting decade that, following on from the end of WW1, brought about an enormous change in the social, political and economic climate of both this country and America.  

February 6th      Richard Clarkson  - “The Avro Vulcan and the Cold War"

Starting with the history of the Vulcan (historical context, design and development, RAF service, Cold War, Falklands conflict),  and concluding with how the restoration group maintain Vulcan XL426 in ground-running condition at London Southend Airport.

March 6th      Allen Dyke   -  A night at the cinema"

A selection of films shot by the Epsom Movie Makers club, ranging from 5 to 20 minutes each and including both humorous and more serious subjects.

April 3rd        Joanna Friel   -  “Chislehurst Through Time"

A newly published book of old images of Chislehurst compared to their modern counterpart, take a journey through time and how much you think Chislehurst has changed.  

May 1st          Gerry Harris   -  Travels in China"

Starting in Hong Kong and travelling through China to Peking, with a number of stops at ancient sites, including the Terracotta Army.   

June 5th        Melanie Gibson-Barton  -  “Parks and Gardens of Flanders"

A wide-ranging talk appealing to garden lovers and walkers.  Exploring the characteristic neatness and originality of Flemish gardeners.

July 3rd        Steve Desson  -  “Kenya Safari”

A trip that takes you from Nairobi, down to Amboseli, back up to Lake Naivasha and finishes off in the Masai Mara, including Nairobi and the huge slum, Kibera, there. Then on to Mount Kilimanjaro.  

August 7th      Dennis Chambers -  “Hypnosis - The Simple Truths

Exposing many of the myths and mysteries surrounding hypnosis to reveal what a useful tool it can be. Explaining the advantages and presenting some of the downsides.

September 4th   AGM 7.30pm followed by   Gilly Halcrow  -  “Churchill’s Secret Army"

A tribute to the brave men and women agents who were parachuted behind enemy lines to ‘Set Europe Ablaze’.

October 2nd     Alan Baker- “Music Hall Monologues and Comic Songs" A late change! Alan Baker will entertain us with a selection of recitations and recordings together with some background about the artistes.

November 6th   Martin Heard  - "First World War Artists"     

Many artists who were at the forefront of the modernist Avant-Garde were called to the colours of their respective nations. As soldiers or as official war artists they produced an extraordinary range of striking images that convey the immediacy and horror of their experiences and feelings.

December 4th     Members' social evening with refreshments whilst being entertained by Joy Lewis and Derrick Hughes. Joy and Derrick are multi-talented professional musicians who will regale us with a wide range of music and instruments from the medieval period on towards the present day.
